FAQs
Is the phone really free?
Yes. For eligible customers, the phone and monthly service are provided at no cost through the federal Lifeline program and our approved carrier partners. There are no activation fees or hidden charges from iSky Telecomm.
Who qualifies for a free Lifeline phone?
You may qualify if you receive certain government benefits (such as EBT/CalFresh, Medi-Cal, SSI, Section 8, WIC, Veterans Pension) or if your household income falls within the Lifeline income guidelines.
Do you need good credit?
No. Lifeline is not based on credit. Approval is based on your benefits or income eligibility, not your credit score.
How long does the appointment take?
Most visits take 15 – 30 minutes, as long as you bring the valid ID and proof of benefits/income.
Will I get my phone the same day?
In most cases, yes. Once your applications is approved, we activate your phone on the spot and you leave the office with a working device.
What kind of phone will I receive?
Phone models vary based on carrier inventory. You’ll receive a brand new Android phone that meets program requirement and is ready for unlimited talk, text and data.
Is there a monthly bill or contact?
No contract is required for the Lifeline plan. For eligible customers, the monthly service is covered by the program. If you choose extra paid service beyond the standard Lifeline plan, those would be explained clearly before you decide to upgrade.
Can I keep my current phone number?
In many cases, yes. If your current number is eligible for transfer, we can request a number Port during your appointment so you don’t have to change numbers.
What if I already have a Lifeline phone with another company?
You can have one active Lifeline benefit per household. If you want to switch to one of our carriers partners, we can help you transfer your benefits, following program rules.
What if I lose my phone or it gets stolen?
If your Lifeline phone is lost or stolen, contact the carrier’s customer support right away to suspend service and ask about replacement options. You can also visit our office and we’ll guide you through the process.
Can more than one person in my home get a Lifeline phone?
Generally, no. Lifeline is limited to one benefit per household, not per person. Certain exceptions may apply for people living in group housing situations as defined by the program.
Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome during office hours, but appointments are recommended to reduce your wait time and make sure an agent is available to help you.
What if I don’t have my proof of benefits today?
You can still stop by, and we’ll review what you have and show you exactly what’s missing. Once you get the right documents, you can return and complete your enrollment.
Is iSky Telecomm a phone company or the government?
iSky Telecomm is an independent distributor working with approved Lifeline carriers. We are not the government and not the carrier. We simply help you enroll, activate, and support your service locally.
How often do I need to renew my Lifeline benefits?
Lifeline benefits must be re-certified each year according to the program rules. Your carrier will contact you when it’s time to renew. If you need help, you can visit our office and we’ll walk you through it.
